My names is Dawn Barnard-Voice, my counselling approach is rooted in the humanistic school of psychotherapy pioneered by Carl Rogers in the late 1940s and which continues to develop in terms of theory and practice today.
The heart of the approach is that you, the client, have all the answers to the problems in your life within you and that these answers can be unlocked by you with the support of an effective counsellor who really listens and who is empathic, real and totally non-judgemental. Once you hear for yourself with my support just how you really think and operate in your day to day life you may be in a position to make changes that will bring positive benefits.
As a person centred counsellor, I am committed to providing counselling in a safe, confidential and totally non-judgemental environment, with the aim to enable you to improve your quality of life and live more fully.
Counselling offers a safe space to address deep emotional hurts and traumas from the past and present and can be powerful moving and life changing. It is however a process that is as effective as you are willing to let it be; your voice is essential to the process.. My role is to act as a guide, helping facilitate the process of your self-discovery, the sessions will be largely guided by what you bring to each session
I consider all life stories and problems to be personally unique. I believe in privileging your perception, ideas and experiences, therefore I use a range of therapeutic techniques in my work, including sand tray, art materials and mindfulness depending on the particular concern whilst respecting the uniqueness of you as an individual.
I offer an initial consultation, so that you can come and meet me to decide, without obligation, whether I am the right counsellor for you.
